Tarot – Five Free Online Learning Resources

So you want to learn Tarot and you realise that there are a bewildering array of books, approaches, viewpoints and methods of learning and teaching out there. None of us want to shell out a wadd of money on something that we aren’t entirely sure is right for us.

Luckily, there are a bunch of useful free resources available on the internet for you to get a feel for how you want to approach learning to read the cards. I’ve included five here to get you started.

The First is a ten part series of videos from Kelly Ann Maddox on Youtube. Based on the Rider Waite Smith style Tarot cards this is a comprehensive and very accessible way to get started. Many long-time readers revisit this course from time to time for a refresher.

Joan Bunning has been around forever. She offers a course and a free download of her book on learning to read the Tarot – again Rider Waite Smith cards are featured here:

My personal favourite is Read Like the Devil a crash course in card reading from the charismatic and edgy Camellia Ellias.

If you don’t mind being bombarded with marketing spam, Dusty White offers a free course:

What I would say regarding this course is THIS IS NOT THE ONLY GREAT APPROACH TO READING.

Bridget Esslemont is a Tarot mogul with a huge online Tarot business. She offers free resources – again, please be aware that there will be masses of marketing spam dropping into your inbox unless you unsubscribe after receiving the free resources:

There are also several blog posts on the Trade Winds Tarot and Oracle blog that you may find useful.

There is no need to hold a certificate to be a great reader, or to be seen as competent. In all my years of reading, I have never once been asked to show a certificate or diploma or prove affiliation to a Tarot association (there are several). These things may help your self confidence as a reader though. But that’s a separate issue.

Reading Tarot, and the systems and methods that get you to the heart of an issue and beyond are very personal, no system is better than the one that makes using the cards a joyful, insightful and deep experience for you. The cards will talk to you in your language if you can relax enough to let them.
